Wimberley Valley Quilt Guild

Who We Are…and What We Do

If you’re a new member….welcome to our guild!  And if you’re just visiting, we hope that you will become a member.  We have a wide range of talents and abilities in our guild…and we love to share the joy of quilting!

Our History:

In 1994, Pat Kakos led a group of four other quilters to establish the Wimberley Valley Quilt Guild.  By 1997, there were about 15 members in the WVQG, and they were already making quilts to donate to the women’s shelter in San Marcos. Today, we are a guild of 90+ members and are proud to be a part of that legacy started by that small group in 1994. And, in 2025, the Wimberley Valley Quilt Guild became a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

Fun Stuff….Other Meetings and Activities:

Charity Quilts – A group of volunteers meets the 2nd Wednesday of each month at the Wimberley Presbyterian Church from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. This group creates quilts, bags, etc. for our adopted charities. Bring your lunch, your sewing machine, sewing supplies, and enjoy sewing with fellow quilters. Fabric, batting, irons, ironing boards and cutting mats are usually supplied.

PHDProjects Half Done meets the 4th Wednesday of the month at the Wimberley Presbyterian Church from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm to work on any project they choose…spend time with quilt friends and finish that project you’ve been procrastinating on! It is a fun day of sewing, sharing and friendship. Bring your lunch!

Christmas Market – The annual Christmas Market, held the 3rd Saturday in November, is the guild’s major fundraiser. Members make quilts and quilt-related items to be sold during the market. The proceeds from the Christmas Market support WVQG charity projects and the guild’s operating expenses.

DeStash – This annual event is an important fundraiser for WVQG…and helps to declutter members’ sewing rooms!  Members are asked to donate…aka “DeStash” unwanted and unused quilting items, such as fabric, tools, rulers, sewing machines, or any type of quilting gadget or gizmo. These items are sold at the DeStash event and proceeds support the guild’s operating budget.
